| Make Wise Use of Your Credit Card |

By Todd R Everyone has a credit card of some kind or another and most people have at least three cards. Such cards are essential in todays society because you cannot even make a hotel reservation over the phone without one. Online shopping has become the norm and just about everyone now uses the Internet in order to book airline flights and vacations. They offer a high degree of flexibility in your payment options and give you security in knowing that you do have funds available when you need them.
In order to make wise use of your credit cards, you do have to act responsibly when using them for a purchase. Most credit cards have a reward attached to them in the form of air miles or other rewards that you can accumulate and use at a later date. For this reason, people are using their credit cards for all their purchases in order to accumulate the points they need for travel or to buy other things. One of the best pieces of advice you will ever receive about using your credit card is to try and repay the balance in full when you receive your statement. This will help you avoid building up a balance on which you have to pay high rates of interest. On the other hand, it is not always good to repay your full balance each month because this does not help you build a good credit rating. From time to time, you can leave a small balance that you can carry over to the next month and then repay the balance in full. This will be reported to the credit agencies as a positive item on your report. If you cannot repay the full balance on your credit card, you should try to make a higher payment than the minimum amount required. Take note of the amount of interest charged on your statement and overpay the payment by this amount. In this way, the minimum payment will actually go towards paying off the balance and none of it will go towards the interest. There are always offers of low interest or zero per cent interest credit cards coming in the mail. If you have a high interest card on which the balance never seems to decrease because of the interest charges, it would be a good idea to apply for one of these cards and transfer the balance to the card. In this way you will be able to pay off the balance quicker because you have less interest to pay. You should be aware that the offer of 0% or low interest is for an introductory period only and after it expires, the interest rate reverts to the normal one charged by the credit card company. You should compare these rates to make sure that the rate is not higher than what you are already paying. Todd Moore is the owner of the credit help website.
